Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design Leak Shows Google Might Not Be Ready To Compete iPhone Fold

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design Leaked

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design just leaked five months early. In those same five months, Apple will unveil the iPhone Fold, its first ever foldable. Google has never competed against Apple in this category before, and based on what we just saw in these renders, the timing could not be worse.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design – Leak That Started the Clock

It’s already Pixel 11 leak season, with the first CAD based renders of the upcoming Pixel 11 Pro Fold having just hit the web to reveal a device that, frankly, doesn’t look all that different.

Leaker @OnLeaks obtained and shared new renders of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold through Android Headlines, which are based on CAD drawings used for developing accessories for the device.

I am Ameer Hamza, and at Global Tech Press, we spent the last 12 hours studying every angle of these renders. And the first thing that hit me was not the design itself. It was the timing.

Apple is working on a foldable iPhone that’s set to come out in September 2026.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold will almost surely go on sale after a Galaxy Z Fold 8 that sounds positively dreamy, as well as roughly at the same time as a foldable iPhone that’s widely expected to instantly invigorate the entire market segment.

For three years, Google has been iterating on its foldable design in a market where Samsung was the only real competition. Now, Apple is walking in. And based on these leaked renders, Google brought a refinement to a revolution fight.

What the Renders Actually Show

Let me be clear about what changed and what did not.

Moving away from the somewhat bulky, stacked rectangular housing seen on previous models, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold features a cleaner, more modern camera bump.

The new design sees the LED flash and microphone integrated directly into a pill shaped cutout alongside the lenses, rather than sitting awkwardly to the side.

That is the one visible change. Everything else is familiar.

In terms of dimensions, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is only slightly thinner than the previous generation, dropping to 10.1mm folded and 4.8mm unfolded. That’s down from 10.8mm folded and 5.2mm unfolded on Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

The height stays at 155.2mm. The width stays at 150.4mm unfolded. The selfie cameras remain in the same positions. The speaker grill and USB C port are unchanged.

It’s still nowhere near the sub 9mm thickness of competing foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7Honor Magic V6, and others, but progress is progress.

Now Compare That to What Apple Is Reportedly Bringing

This is where the contrast becomes uncomfortable for Google.

Industry analyst Ming Chi Kuo expects the foldable iPhone to measure between 9 and 9.5mm when folded, and around 4.5 to 4.8mm when unfolded.

So the iPhone Fold, on its very first attempt, would be thinner when folded than the Pixel 11 Pro Fold on its third generation. That is a statement.

Apple has been focused on ensuring the iPhone Fold doesn’t have a noticeable crease when it’s open, a problem that the company has reportedly solved with display improvements and a strong, durable hinge made from Liquidmetal.

The crease is said to be “nearly invisible” when the iPhone is unfolded.

Multiple reports have suggested the foldable iPhone will be priced between $2,000 and $2,500 in the United States, which could make it the most expensive iPhone ever.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is expected to launch around $1,799 based on its predecessor’s pricing. So Google does have a price advantage. But that advantage only matters if the product itself can compete on experience.

The Camera Gap Google Cannot Afford to Ignore

This is the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s most glaring weakness heading into the iPhone Fold showdown.

What we really want from the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is an improved camera array. While the Pixel 10 Pro handsets had 48MP ultrawide and telephoto lenses, the far more expensive Pixel 10 Pro Fold was stuck with 10.5MP for both. We’re hoping that Google puts this discrepancy right in 2026.

The place you’ll find the biggest changes is the camera housing on the backside. According to the report, Google may bring the Pixel 10 Pro’s camera system to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, while also upgrading the housing. From what the renders show, it’s a more modern, clean housing.

That is a rumor from Droid Life, not a confirmation.

Leaks so far are silent on a huge upgrade for the camera system of the 11 Pro Fold. It’s very likely that the cameras may be similar, if not the same, to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s.

If Google ships another $1,799 foldable with a 10.5MP ultrawide in a market where the iPhone Fold will carry Apple’s latest imaging system, the comparison will be brutal.

The Battery Problem That Has Not Gone Away

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design Leaked

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold got a battery size increase to 5,015mAh. Unfortunately, though, it didn’t fare too well in terms of battery life in tests, especially in 3D gaming, where the phone miserably failed with ensuring just 3 hours 40 minutes. Competitors like the Z Fold 7 and the Oppo Find N5 managed above 8 hours 30 minutes. Definitely battery life is an area that Google needs to improve on its foldable model.

Battery, display sizes, IP68 resistance, Pixelsnap and Qi2 wireless charging are all expected to carry over.

That means no bigger battery. No faster charging. The Tensor G6 might improve efficiency, but it is unproven.

Under the hood, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is set to debut the Tensor G6 chipset. Unlike previous versions, this chip is rumored to be manufactured by TSMC on a cutting edge 3nm (or potentially 2nm) process. This shift is significant because it promises better thermal management and efficiency.

If the Tensor G6 cannot close the battery efficiency gap, no software trick will save the Pixel 11 Pro Fold from being outperformed by both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Fold in real world endurance.

Where Google Can Still Win This Fight

It is not all bad news. Google has three advantages that neither Apple nor Samsung can match.

First, seven years of guaranteed OS and security updates. The iPhone Fold will get long software support too, but Samsung’s foldables still trail in consistency.

Second, computational photography. Even with weaker hardware, Google’s image processing has historically punched above its weight.

Cinematic Blur may gain support for 4K 30fps video, while 100x zoom capabilities thanks to generative AI may become available for photos and videos.

Third, price. At $1,799 versus a rumored $2,000 to $2,500 for the iPhone Fold, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold would be significantly cheaper.

And there is one more wildcard.

Other Pixel 11 series leaks suggest that Google may be switching to a modem from MediaTek, as well as possibly integrating new face unlock hardware, the latter potentially being a good reason for the foldable to remain on the thicker side.

If Google delivers Face ID level security in the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, that would be a genuine first for an Android foldable.

Review – Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Design Leaked

In my opinion, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s fate lies, at least in part, in Google’s hands, and if the revised rear camera system happens to include actual improvements to the hardware and performance, I could definitely see this handset sell in reasonable numbers.

For three years, Google has been refining its foldable in relative comfort. Samsung was the main rival. The market was niche.

That comfort ends in September 2026.

When Apple walks into the foldable market, it will bring the iOS ecosystem, the media attention, and the consumer trust that no Android manufacturer can match. The iPhone Fold will not need to be perfect. It just needs to be an iPhone that folds. That alone will sell millions.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold needs to be more than a slightly thinner version of last year’s phone. It needs better cameras. It needs better battery life. And it needs the Tensor G6 to finally deliver on efficiency.

Google has five months. Based on what we’ve seen in these renders, the outside is ready. The question is whether the inside is ready too.

Because this time, Google is not just competing with Samsung. It is competing with the most anticipated foldable phone in history.
