Introduction

The mid-range phone space in 2026 is more competitive than ever. Every brand is racing to pack flagship-level hardware into phones that cost a fraction of the price.

Xiaomi has finally announced the launch of the new POCO X8 Pro phones. The new lineup consists of the POCO X8 Pro and its slightly more expensive sibling, the X8 Pro Max.

I am Ameer Hamza, and at the Global Tech Press, I spent time going through every confirmed spec and hands-on detail from launch day. Here is what you actually need to know before buying.

Design: A Real Step Up from the X7 Pro

The POCO X8 Pro has received big upgrades in design compared to the POCO X7 Pro. It ditches the plastic build and goes for a more premium aluminium frame paired with a glass back. Both surfaces have a soft matte texture that makes the phone feel more premium than its price would suggest.

The company has also toned down its usual flashy yellow racing stripe and replaced it with more subtle black, white, and green colour options. Both models boast metal frames and a unique Dynamic RGB light on the back that pulses with your music or flashes when you get a notification. That is a detail you do not usually see at this price point.

The Display Does Not Disappoint

The POCO X8 Pro features a 6.59-inch 1.5K 120Hz ultra-bright AMOLED display with 3,500 nits peak brightness covering 25% of the display area and 3840Hz PWM dimming. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 streaming on Netflix.

The brightness is also good enough for outdoor use, and the in-display fingerprint scanner is quick to unlock. The POCO X8 Pro features ultra-slim bezels — 1.7mm at the bottom and 1.5mm on the other sides — for an immersive viewing experience.

Dimensity 8500 Ultra: Fast and Efficient

The POCO X8 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra and comes with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The phone posted an AnTuTu score of 2,283,558 in POCO’s internal lab testing at around 25°C.

The POCO X8 Pro uses a POCO 3D Dual-layer IceLoop Cooling System to keep things cool during gaming. That keeps the chipset running at full speed even during extended gaming sessions without thermal throttling kicking in.

Battery and Charging: The Real Story

The POCO X8 Pro packs a 6,500mAh (typ) battery with 100W HyperCharge support. The POCO X8 Pro houses a 6,500mAh battery. While smaller than the Max, it still easily outlasts most flagship phones currently on the market.

The POCO X8 Pro supports up to 100W charging with PPS-compatible adapters. The 100W HyperCharge means the adapter output power is 100W. That translates to a very fast top-up in real daily use.

Camera: Honest and Straight

Both handsets have a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). They use different sensors because of their price points. The standard X8 Pro opts for the Sony IMX882 sensor. Both devices include an 8MP ultra-wide lens with a 123-degree field of view. A 20MP front-facing camera handles selfies with improved sharpness.

Cameras have traditionally been the Achilles heel of POCO phones, and the POCO X8 Pro more or less follows the same pattern. While the cameras are a let-down, it was never a highlight of this POCO series. If photography is your top priority, the X8 Pro Max with its Light Fusion 600 sensor is the better pick.

Software: Android 16 With HyperOS 3

Both the POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max run Android 16 with HyperOS 3 on top. The POCO X8 Pro continues the series tradition of delivering exceptional performance but with some much-needed upgrades. It now comes in an aluminium and glass chassis, with a water-resistant build, a large vapour chamber, improved HyperOS 3 experience, and 100W fast charging.

Price: What You Actually Pay

The base 8GB + 256GB model of the POCO X8 Pro starts at $299. The Iron Man Edition costs $399 and comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The company is also teaming up with Marvel to release an eye-catching Iron Man Special Edition targeting Avengers fans.

Important note for UK and European readers: POCO has confirmed global availability, but exact regional pricing varies by market. Always check your local POCO or Xiaomi store for confirmed pricing before purchasing.

US readers: POCO does not have an official US retail store. If you are in the US, the phone will be available through grey import channels only. Prices will vary by seller.

Final Thoughts

The POCO X8 Pro is a genuinely well-rounded mid-range phone for 2026. The Dimensity 8500 Ultra, 6,500mAh battery, 100W HyperCharge, and premium aluminium and glass build together make a strong case for anyone who wants performance without a flagship price tag.

The camera is the one area where POCO still holds back. The Sony IMX882 does a solid job for social media and everyday shots, but it is not a phone you buy for photography.

If you game, stream, or simply want a phone that lasts all day and charges fast, the POCO X8 Pro is hard to argue with at this price point.
