The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now one of the most thoroughly leaked phones in Samsung’s history. Multiple credible sources have converged on a July 22, 2026 launch in London, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and an entirely new device: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Here is every confirmed pattern, credible leak, and clear rumor — labeled so you know exactly what to trust.

am Ameer Hamza at Global Tech Press. Samsung has not officially confirmed anything in this article. Every claim below carries a confidence label — Confirmed Pattern (based on Samsung's unbroken track record), Credible Leak (supply-chain or trusted leaker sources), or Rumor (unverified, treat with caution). Read accordingly.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Release Date: July 22, 2026 — London

Confidence: Credible Leak Notebookcheck reported on April 11, 2026, that Samsung's next Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for July 22, 2026, in London. Three foldable devices will be unveiled: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Z Wide Fold.

This aligns perfectly with Samsung's historical pattern — every Z Fold since the series began has been announced at a July Unpacked event. The Z Fold 7 launched July 9, 2025. The Z Fold 6 launched July 10, 2024.

As for when you can actually buy one: with the official launch set for July 22, 2026, availability is currently scheduled between August 5 and August 7, 2026, with pre-orders already underway according to early reports. That two-week gap between announcement and general availability is consistent with Samsung's pattern on every previous Z Fold.

The Biggest New Development: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide

This is the most significant change Samsung has made to its foldable lineup in years. Instead of one book-style foldable, Samsung is not launching one book-style foldable in 2026. It is launching two. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 arrives alongside an entirely new form factor: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.

This wider, shorter device abandons the tall book-style proportions that have defined Samsung's foldable flagship since the original Z Fold in 2019, replacing them with a 4:3 aspect ratio designed for landscape content, split-screen productivity, and a direct counter to Apple's incoming iPhone Fold.

When unfolded, the 7.6-inch 4:3 display provides a landscape-native canvas better suited for video content, split-screen multitasking, and on-screen keyboard typing. When folded, it becomes a compact, passport-sized device at 123.9 × 82.2mm — shorter and wider than the standard Fold 8's 158.4 × 72.8mm.

The purpose is clear. It directly mirrors the dimensions and proportions expected from Apple's iPhone Fold, which is anticipated for September 2026. Samsung is launching the Wide two months before Apple ships — directly targeting the same use case.

If you want to see how the Oppo Find N6 compares as another wide-format foldable alternative, we broke that down in our Oppo Find N6 vs Galaxy Z Fold 7 full comparison.

The Three Meaningful Upgrades Over the Galaxy Z Fold 7

Battery: The jump from 4,400 mAh to a reported 5,000 mAh is a 14% increase. That addresses a real complaint — the Z Fold 7's battery was adequate but not impressive for a productivity-first device. 1If it comes with a large battery on board, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 won't disappoint Samsung fans. Worth noting: PhoneArena's headline called this "the biggest and most disappointing battery upgrade you can imagine" — suggesting the 5,000 mAh number may underwhelm some buyers who were hoping for more.

Ultrawide camera: Unlike the Z Fold 7 which had a fairly lacklustre 12MP ultra-wide camera for such an expensive device, the Fold 8 could be packing a much improved 50MP equivalent. This is the biggest camera spec change in the Z Fold series in years. Reviewers consistently flagged the 12MP ultrawide as the weakest link in the Z Fold 7's camera system.

Display crease: The foldable screen reportedly uses a dual-Ultra Thin Glass structure along with a laser-drilled metal support plate. This could result in a nearly crease-free appearance — something smartphone enthusiasts have been asking for years. Samsung Display showcased this panel at CES 2026. Whether this panel actually makes it into the Z Fold 8 or is reserved for other devices remains unconfirmed.

What Has Not Changed — And Probably Should Have

Samsung has been fairly iterative over the last few smartphone generations with regard to camera upgrades, and that is largely the same with the Z Fold 8. The newer phone will still have the same 200MP main camera of its predecessor, as well as the familiar 3x 10MP telephoto.

The inner display size remains at approximately 8 inches on the standard model. And charging speed — while expected to improve over the Z Fold 7's 25W — has no confirmed figure from any credible supply-chain source yet. Any article quoting a specific wattage right now is speculating. We will not do that here.

Given how much the Oppo Find N6 has raised the bar on foldable charging and battery life, Samsung will need to show something meaningful. We covered that in our Oppo Find N6 full review.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 S Pen Situation

Samsung removed the built-in S Pen slot from the Z Fold series starting with the Z Fold 5, citing hinge thickness constraints. The Z Fold 7 retained S Pen compatibility as an accessory only — not built-in. Multiple sources — including Android Central and SoyaCincau — now suggest the Z Fold 8's slight thickness increase may accommodate S Pen compatibility.

SoyaCincau reported that the 0.3mm thickness increase could be directly related to S Pen integration. No credible supply-chain sources have confirmed a built-in slot as of early 2026. S Pen support as an accessory is expected to continue. Built-in slot support remains unconfirmed.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs iPhone Fold: The Context That Changes Everything

2026 marks the first year in foldable history where Samsung faces a genuine western-market competitor. Apple's iPhone Fold is expected to launch in September 2026 at an estimated $2,400 starting price — roughly two months after the Z Fold 8's July launch.

That pricing gap matters. SammyFans called Samsung's decision to hold the $1,999 price point "the most deliberate pricing decision Samsung has made in years" — with the reasoning being strategic: a price hike would hand Apple a competitive advantage before Apple even ships.

We covered Apple's foldable ambitions and what they mean for the wider market in our article on why the Apple foldable iPhone could cost nearly $3,000.

Honestly, Should You Wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

If you have a Z Fold 7 right now, the battery and ultrawide upgrades are real but probably not enough on their own to justify the cost of upgrading. You should not wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if you're on a budget or if you've just bought a 2025 flagship — the Z Fold 8 won't perform dramatically better compared to your current handset.

If you have a Z Fold 5, Z Fold 6, or a regular slab phone and are considering a foldable for the first time, July 22 is the date to mark. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is shaping up to be the most important foldable of 2026 — and for the first time in the category's history, it launches alongside genuine competition from Apple.

The more interesting question is the Z Fold 8 Wide. If you prefer landscape content, wider split-screen multitasking, or want to compare Samsung's answer to the iPhone Fold before committing — that is the device to watch on July 22.
