Samsung officially announced the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G on March 25, 2026. I have been digging through every spec sheet, every press release, and every comparison since the announcement dropped. And the one question I keep seeing everywhere is this: why does the Galaxy A57 cost more than last year’s A56?
The Galaxy A56 launched at €479 in Europe and $499 in the US. The Galaxy A57 added a premium of €50/$50 over the A56. The 2026 model starts at €529 and $549. So where is that extra cash going? Let me walk you through it.
The Galaxy A57 Is Thinner, Lighter, and Tougher
Samsung has reduced the thickness from 7.4mm on the A56 to 6.9mm on the A57.
Combined with a weight of just 179g, 20g lighter than the A56, it should feel much more comfortable to hold and use in day to day life.
Durability is where the change is more straightforward. The A56 offered IP67 protection, while the A57 moves to IP68. It brings better resistance against water exposure, not just splashes but submersion within rated limits.
A New Chip That Actually Matters
The Galaxy A56 5G runs on the Exynos 1580, while the Galaxy A57 5G moves to the newer Exynos 1680. CPU performance is up by 12.5 percent, GPU by 13.8 percent, and NPU performance by as much as 42 percent.
The Exynos 1680 is a 4nm chip with a new GPU, the Xclipse 550, and a more powerful NPU that delivers 19.6 TOPS (up from 14.7 TOPS on the 1580). That NPU boost is a big deal because it handles all the AI features Samsung has been pushing this year.
Improved Cooling Under the Hood
The improved cooling thanks to a 13% larger vapor chamber on the Galaxy A57 should also help with longer battery life and performance.
Same Camera Hardware, Smarter Processing
On paper, the camera setup looks unchanged. Both devices have a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra wide, a 5MP macro, and a 12MP front camera. The difference, however, comes from processing. The Galaxy A57 5G introduces an enhanced ISP and improved low noise processing.
Another practical upgrade is faster shooting. The A57 reduces shot to shot delay to around 230ms, compared to 300ms on the A56.
New AI Features on the A57
Samsung has added the same improved Circle to Search tech and upgraded Bixby experience that shipped with the Galaxy S26 range.
Samsung has also introduced voice transcription tech with this year’s mid ranger, offering transcription not only in the recorder app but in calls too.

Is the Extra $50 Worth It
Trade in offers, where available, could soften the blow and make upgrading worthwhile. And if you are coming from an older Galaxy A5x model, the A57 should feel like a much bigger leap than last year’s upgrade.
But if you already own the Galaxy A56, the day to day experience will not change much. The honest truth is, this upgrade makes the most sense for people on a Galaxy A54 or older. For A56 owners, waiting another year is perfectly reasonable.
