Why the Prices Crashed
Three things happened at once.
First, the S24 is not the latest Samsung Galaxy S device; that is the S26, which officially went on sale in February 2026. Every time Samsung launches a new flagship, older models drop significantly.
Second, this price reduction is mainly due to the arrival of newer models, increased competition, and Samsung’s strategy to keep older flagships relevant.
Third, carrier trade in deals are pushing prices even lower. The range you can get for your Galaxy S24 when you trade it in for a Samsung Galaxy S26 based on current promotions is $174 to $1,100.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 at $219 is not an old budget phone. It is a two year old flagship that still receives monthly security updates and is about to get One UI 8.5.
Equipped with a Samsung Exynos 2400 processor (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US) and exceptional cameras, the S24 also includes Samsung’s Galaxy AI features and software updates, promised through 2031.

Let me be honest about the trade offs. There are real differences.
The S26 is a powerhouse, utilizing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (or the 2nm Exynos 2600 in the UK), which offers a massive boost in AI processing over the S24’s hardware.
Samsung has also improved the base specs: the S26 now starts at 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM, whereas the entry level S24 was limited to 128GB and 8GB of RAM.
The S26 is notably sleeker, featuring a record thin 7.2mm profile and a slightly larger 6.3-inch display compared to the S24’s 6.2-inch screen.
You lose the latest chipset, the thinner design, and the newer AI features like Now Nudge and the upgraded Bixby with Perplexity. But you keep the 120Hz AMOLED display, the triple camera system, Galaxy AI core features, and 7 years of updates extending through 2031.
Who Should Buy the Galaxy S24 in March 2026
