If you just bought the Samsung Galaxy A57, there is a setting turned on out of the box that you need to disable immediately. It is called RAM Plus. Samsung markets it as a way to boost performance by turning your storage into virtual memory. In reality, it forces the phone to work harder, slowing down your apps and needlessly wearing out your storage drive.
I am Ameer Hamza, and at Global Tech Press, we dig into the system settings that manufacturers bury in their menus.
The Galaxy A57 RAM Plus feature is the biggest offender in One UI right now.
What RAM Plus Actually Does
By default, One UI 8.5 allocates 4GB or 6GB of your internal storage to act as fake RAM.
When you open multiple apps, the system moves older apps from the fast physical memory into the slower internal storage. When you try to open that app again, the processor has to retrieve it from the slow storage drive. This creates micro stutters and lag when swapping between heavy applications.
If you want to read more about how One UI manages memory, we covered this when Samsung Galaxy A57 gets One UI 8.5 like S26.
Why the Galaxy A57 Does Not Need It
The Galaxy A57 ships with either 8GB or 12GB of fast physical memory.
That is more than enough to run Android 16 smoothly. Forcing the phone to use virtual memory actively restricts the processor from using the physical memory efficiently. Disabling the Galaxy A57 RAM Plus feature forces the phone to keep apps in the fast memory, completely removing menu lag.
We see similar background tracking issues hurting performance. You can read about those in our android battery is dying because of this habit guide.
How to Turn It Off Right Now
Disabling this feature takes ten seconds.
Open your Settings app. Scroll down and tap on Device Care. Tap on Memory. At the very bottom of the screen, you will see the RAM Plus option. Tap it, toggle the switch at the top to the off position, and your phone will ask to restart.
Once the phone boots back up, you will immediately notice smoother animations and faster app switching. If you are experiencing other screen issues, we also wrote a guide on how to fix samsung galaxy a series stuck on 60hz.
Protect Your Storage Health
Turning off the Galaxy A57 RAM Plus feature also protects your device long term.
Solid state storage drives have a limited number of read and write cycles. Using your storage as virtual memory forces the phone to constantly write and erase temp files all day long. Turning it off extends the lifespan of your storage chip significantly.
Make this change today, and experience how fast One UI 8.5 is actually supposed to feel.
